Neil Avenue Expansion

Project Description:

  • Our clients had been living in their house for several years, but as their family started to expand, it was time to tackle a renovation to bring some order to their daily lives. Originally the kitchen was small and tucked into the back corner of the house. The only way to get to it was by going through the other rooms, and that created traffic and chaos inside the house. We opened the floor plan so that you can now go from the front door, through the house to the kitchen, and directly to the backyard. The kitchen was expanded with a small addition that also gave us space for a new mudroom. The kids can now drop their backpacks and coats before going into the house. We took the bathroom that was attached to the dining room and realigned it to open to the new mudroom. Upstairs, we add a desperately needed walk-in closet to complete the master suite.

Project Details:

The kitchen, mudroom and bath on the first floor have tile floors with radiant heating.   The built-in window seat in the kitchen gives kids a place to hang out while keeping them from being underfoot.

The cabinets in the mudroom were custom designed for the space to blend with the architecture of the home. A wrap-around bench provides plenty of seating with shoe storage below and coat hooks and shelving above. A built-in closet hides clutter and brings serenity to the space.
