Project Description:

  • This a nice Arts and Crafts house that had lost some of its character over the years. The goal was to reorganize and slightly expand the home, restoring the Craftsman feeling of the original home while still modernizing it for today. We removed a small one-story porch and added a new two story addition at the back of the house. The addition gave us space to reorganize and add a master bedroom suite with walk-in closet and bath. The bedroom features over-sized windows and a wide built-in window seat that overlooks the backyard. The master bath has subway tile and classic marble details. It also has a wall of windows overlooking the yard which is a perfect setting for the soaking tub. We reworked the front porch to remove the layers of vinyl and add back the Craftsman character, including the exposed rafter eaves and new paired columns.

Project Details:

The bath features classic historic details like chrome plumbing fixtures, pivot mirrors, marble counters and shower bench and hex tile floor.  The soaking tub is a nod to the old claw foot tub that would have originally been there. The large shower is a modern feature that updates the function of the bath – it’s clean historic detailing make it fit in seamlessly.

The front porch had been stripped of its original charm.  The new porch incorporates paired columns, exposed eaves and color – such as the traditional blue tongue and groove beaded-board ceiling – all which gave the home back it’s original curb appeal.

We used oversize windows in the addition to bring light into the house.  The master suite is now a peaceful, sunlight retreat.
